A vegan skincare range...that works!

I’ve always been a great believer in the link between natural, high quality ingredients and health and wellbeing – whether that’s within food or skincare products. So, when I was approached by Arbonne UK to try some of the safest, most natural products around, I was intrigued to say the least.

Who are Arbonne?

Launched in 1975, Arbonne has been creating beauty products that are committed to being as safe as they are effective, and formulated with the safest, natural based ingredients available. While sustainability plays a key role in Arbonne, they tell me that a big aspect of that is ingredient sourcing. Arbonne definitely prides itself on its meticulous ingredient curation process in which only the highest quality of natural ingredients are infused within the Arbonne products.

While the products sold by Arbonne contain a wide array of ingredients I find it really interesting that some of the ingredients seem to show up over and over again:

• Brown Algae Extract: found inside a number of anti-aging products. This plant extract is commonly used in skincare to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is also very moisturizing which helps to soften and smooth mature skin along with antioxidant properties to help protect the skin against environmental free radicals. • Stabilized Vitamin C: is another ingredient that seems to be prominent amongst Arbonne formulations. Commonly used in many skin care formulations for its skin brightening abilities, vitamin C is infused into Arbonne products to help stimulate collagen production. Over time, this leads to firmer skin, a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, and brighter more radiant skin. • Niacinamide: inside a number of Arbonne formulations you’ll find niacinamide. Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is a popular ingredient used in many anti-aging skin care products. It is great for helping to restore moisture, even the complexion, and reduce the appearance of pores. • Mondo Grass Root Extract: isn’t a well-known plant extract but it seems to be infused throughout the Arbonne line. This plant extract is known for its hydrating and moisturizing properties making it a great addition to Arbonne formulations that focus on dry and aging skin. What did they send to me? · A smoothing facial cleanser for clean skin which is the basis of the entire process of skin care· A regenerating toner for skin refreshment and preparation· A renewal serum to support collagen production· An eye cream to treat fine lines· A day cream with SPF 15 to moisturize and restore the skin· An extra moisturizer day cream· A night cream focused on hydration and collagen support· Energy ‘Fizz Sticks’ – I was told to add these to their special tea in the morning before writing to increase my concentration!· Protein shake powder with vitamins and minerals

Day 1: I received the parcel in the afternoon, so the first time that I got to try it was when I started my evening skincare routine. It’s always so exciting when you have new products to try and I was looking forward to going on this journey with the brand. The FC5 set combines fresh fruit cells with science to hydrate the skin properly before bed. Immediately, the cleanser felt lovely on my skin and the night crème left my skin feeling properly hydrated for the evening. What I absolutely loved though was the separate eye cream. This was quite thick which, to me, made me feel like my skin was going to be properly looked after all night through.

Day 2. I woke up to soft skin and my face definitely looked quite fresh. I’d gained a couple of spots in the night but, as with any skincare product I guess you have to be patient to see results.

I went down to the kitchen and boiled the kettle – but not for English Breakfast this morning.

Nervous intake of breath.

Instead, I put the Arbonne essentials teabag into my mug and left it to brew for a few minutes. Then, as instructed, I added the 'Energy Fizz Stick', drank the concoction (which tasted like really perfumed green tea) and headed out to the office. Settling down to finish a press release, I did notice that I was able to focus and I did find myself writing with ease without getting sidetracked. 'But you're like that all of the time are you not, Sophie?' No. I'd be on my twentieth novel if I was.

Day 3.I felt so run down today, Thursdays always knock me for six after a busy week of meetings and deadlines and today was no exception. Today needed something spectacular. Today needed the big guns. I reached for the do-not-use-in-case-of-emergency 'Immunity Support' sample and drank it like someone who’d not had a drink in days. ‘Save me’, I whispered. By the afternoon I felt a lot better – placebo or not, it worked.

Day 4. Friday. A late start and an early morning run. I added the Phytosport Complete Hydration food supplement to a bottle of water and drank half before heading out of the door. Half way around the run I did notice that the cramping I usually get in my neck wasn’t there! I came home, finished the water and then treated myself to the chocolate flavour protein shake which is vegan, completely natural and packed with extra vitamins and minerals. It tastes great!

Day 5. By this point I’ve stuck to my newly prescribed skincare routine religiously – the little sample packs have sadly reached their end and I’ve nearly broken both thumbs trying to squeeze the remaining product out of the pack.

My verdict? My skin feels fantastic to be honest. I actually thought I’d already put my primer on this morning because my skin was so nice and even! It’s also helped with any hyperpigmentation that I had and it’s closed any open pores on my t-zone. Most of all though, I love that it’s completely natural. And vegan.
