Three reasons to believe in yourself
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
"It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
"We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
In today’s society, it’s getting harder and harder to believe in yourself and blow that proverbial trumpet. We’re constantly being told to love ourselves but when we do we’re frowned upon and told to get over ourselves instead.
Successful people, especially successful women are berated, chastised and quite frankly – feared.
Some people are so scared of another's success; it bruises their egos and makes them feel less worthy. And instead of taking those feelings, turning them around and working on themselves, they throw hate at the successful person to bring their own self-worth back up. Either by demeaning the successful persons work or berating them as a human being. Because of this bias, I’m seeing more and more people becoming ashamed of their success, hiding it or downplaying their accomplishments to save others feelings of low self-worth and stop the hate.
'You should be so proud of the business you've created' said my friend the other day. I felt my cheeks burning crimson and completely downplayed everything. 'What, this old business that I've not slept for 12 months to create? Pfft, it's rubbish. I'm rubbish'.
FACT 1: You have no right to demean someone else’s success to make yourself feel better.
FACT 2: You should never downplay your own success – you worked for this, be proud.
3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER APOLOGISE FOR SUCCESS
Because you worked damn hard to get there
Because your success doesn’t diminish anyone else’s
Because you deserve it
For those who do hate it when others do well – and let’s face it you are reading this article because you know you do even though you justify it to yourself in many different ways. Take that energy, refocus it on yourself, and do something with it. Use it to improve your own skillset, push forward with your own career, work on the traits you have that you don’t really like and grow.
And for those who downplay their success – STOP. You have earned this. You should be proud, blow that trumpet and shout it from the rooftops all at the same time. Don’t let anyone bring you down, and make sure you enjoy every bit of that success because you made it happen.
Never apologise for being amazing. Never apologise for being you.
